Party chief Nguyen Phu Trong receives Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in Hanoi

A 21-gun-salute boomed in Hanoi Tuesday afternoon as Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong welcomed his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping for a state visit.

    Following the reception ceremony, Vietnam's Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping traveled to the Central Party Office headquarters to begin a dialogue. The two leaders are expected to hold exchanges regarding strategic directions for bilateral relations.

Chinese Party General Secretary Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan arrived in Hanoi at noon on Tuesday for a two-day visit. The visit is Xi's third to Vietnam as China's Party General Secretary and president. The previous two visits were in 2015 and 2017.

During the visit, Vietnam and China are expected to signs dozens of important cooperation agreements on multiple fields, including security and defense, communications, trade, investment, digital economy, agriculture export, green development and maritime cooperation.
