The Laos match starts at 3 p.m. Hanoi time. In their first SEA Games matches, Vietnam defeated Brunei 6-0 on Monday while Laos had a goalless draw against Singapore on Tuesday.

Vietnam will meet other group B teams, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand, next month. Group A has hosts Philippines, Timor Leste, Myanmar, Malaysia, and Cambodia.

Vietnam's target at this year's SEA Games is to win gold, which will be the first for Vietnam's men's football at the tournament. In the five times that Vietnamese men entered the final, they were beaten by Thailand four times and Malaysia the other time.

Thailand were crowned champions in men’s football at the previous SEA Games in 2017. Host Malaysia snatched the silver and the bronze went to Indonesia.
