Indonesia defeated Thailand 4-2 in a penalty shootout after a dramatic 2-2 draw following extra time in Jakarta, claiming the inaugural FIFA ASEAN Cup title.

Indonesia created the better chances in the first half but could not break through Thailand goalkeeper Saranon Anuin, and the match remained goalless at halftime.

The final changed in the 81st minute when Thailand defender Nicholas Mikelson was sent off after receiving a second yellow card.

Indonesia took the lead three minutes later as Dean James' free kick deflected off Iklas Sanron and beat Anuin.

Thailand responded almost immediately, with Sanron volleying home in the 87th minute to make it 1-1 and force extra time.

Despite playing with 10 men, Thailand went 2-1 ahead in the 111th minute through Peeradol Chamrasamee.

Indonesia equalized five minutes later when Elkan Baggott tapped in from close range after Anuin parried Rizky Ridho's ball.

With the score still 2-2 after extra time, the match went to penalties, where Indonesia prevailed 4-2 to seal the title in front of a packed Gelora Bung Karno Stadium.

The victory made Indonesia the first champions of the FIFA ASEAN Cup and ended their decade-long winless run against Thailand.
