Vietnam beat Bangladesh 6-1 on Monday to claim the second victory straight at Asian Games women's football.

The target of Vietnam in Bangladesh's game was to score as many goals as possible, since it will be hard to compete with the mighty Japan for the first place of the group. What Vietnam aimed for is to advance as one of the best second-placed teams.

Vietnam got a great start with an early goal in the fifth minute by captain Pham Hai Yen, who scored on her 80th appearance for the team.

After that, Vietnam had a few difficulties approaching the opponent’s box, but were still able to double the lead in the 34th minute with Nguyen Thi Thuy Hang’s chip shot over the goalkeeper.

In the second half, Vietnam suddenly lost momentum and lacked attacking idea, while Bangladesh started to have a few chances. The 2-0 score was not what coach Mai Duc Chung wanted, so he made three substitutions in the 62nd minute.

The changes were effective as in just 14 minutes, from 66th to 80th, Vietnam netted four goals, of which Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy scored a double including a beautiful freekick. Two other goals were from Tran Thi Duyen and Thai Thi Thao, with the latter scoring a stunner.

Bangladesh were able to get one back when Masura Parvin converted the penalty. The final score was 6-1 for Vietnam.

They are expected to have a tough time with Japan in the next game on Thursday.
