The 500-square-meter house belongs to a young couple in Ho Chi Minh City. The neighborhood is prone to flooding because it’s near a large river in Thu Duc City, so the first floor was built a meter above the ground. The owner also made sure the common area was an open space with a view of the river and its waterside gardens.
The team of architects used bare concrete structures and replaced walls with wooden sliding doors.
The living room is on the second floor instead of the ground floor so the surrounding scenery can be enjoyed from a higher vantage point.
All rooms in the house employ limited use of walls, except for the bathroom. The “open living design” living room and kitchen are separated only by wooden sliding doors hat create a breezy space when opened.
"When all the doors are opened, the space inside and outside becomes one, helping homeowners enjoy the surrounding nature," one of the home’s architect said.
The bedroom is on the ground floor. On hotter days, the wind breezes through and cools down the room. On rainy days, the wide overhang helps prevent water from splashing inside.
In addition to building the floor of the house one meter off the ground, the architects’ minimalist style also ensures that the house structure feels compact and light.
The floors are seamlessly connected by two outdoor stairs, meaning the owner can get from floor to floor without having to go inside.
Another special feature of the house is the complete use of bare concrete without plastering, tiling or painting, combined with wooden furniture to bring out a raw beauty that blends in with nature.
