Italian designer Maria Giovanna Costa showcased a collection inspired by Vietnamese traditional fashion items such as the ao dai (Vietnamese tunic), conical hat, and lotus flowers at the Vietnam International Fashion Week.

One of the four foreign designers at the event, Costa unveiled her collection “Dragon,” which reflects her deep admiration for Vietnamese cultural heritage, on June 13.

Her designs cleverly integrate images of pagodas, lotus fields, and traditional brick patterns, combined with folklore motifs from the Central Highlands region.

A standout piece in the collection is a white silk dress that draws elements from the ao dai and conical hat.

The collection marries Western silhouettes with the Eastern spirit, utilizing advanced techniques in tailoring, printing, and material handling.

Another standout piece is an ensemble featuring a dress and jacket, which showcases a vibrant array of colors and patterns inspired by Central Highlands folklore.

The collection’s evening gowns are further enhanced with Swarovski crystals, French lace, and laser-cut details.

The fashion show concluded with model Huynh Tu Oanh, winner of The Face Vietnam 2023, wearing a lace dress embellished with roses and crystals, complemented by an asymmetrical, embossed skirt train.

Costa, who launched her brand in 2019, has a background inspired by the weaving and tailoring techniques of her native Sicily, Italy. She has previously presented her work at Milan Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week.

The Vietnam International Fashion Week was held from June 13-16 in Ho Chi Minh City.
