The 182-square-meter house is located in the city of Dong Ha, Quang Tri province, where the weather goes through notable changes over the year. The area is cold and rainy in the winter, while the summer is hot and dry.
Architects who made the house created a wall made from tiles in front of the house, which reduces sun exposure and creates a private space for the bedroom’s balcony.
The house looks like a giant lantern at night, thanks to the electric lights inside.
It is also equipped with a steel structure covered in polyplastic mats on the roof, which help to reduce heat exposure for the bottom floors, and acts as a waterproof “cover” for the whole house, while still being able to gather sunlight for plants in the garden.
The doorstep on the first floor was made to avoid the sunlight.
As the house owner plans to open a fashion studio on the first floor, architects proposed to combine the curves of the whole structure, the green color from the plants, and the red color from the bricks to make an impressive outer look for the whole house, which is hoped will benefit the business.
The second floor balcony is fully covered in red bricks. At night, people living in the house can sit here and look over the brick wall to see the sights in front of the house.
The house’s master bedroom has a window that looks over to the front garden. Being covered by the brick wall, the room is able to avoid sunlight while still having enough natural light and air.
The house’s living room, dining room, and kitchen are all on the first floor. The ceiling is made higher, and is curvy with a sky-inspired color palette. Natural light and air come from the skylight and high windows, allow plants to grow and fresh air to flow through the house.
The house’s common space has windows looking over the living room and the garden at the back of the house.
A reading space is designed in the mezzanine. As neighboring houses block the sun, the light in this space is always calm and clear.
Two bathrooms in the house are always full of light and fresh cool air, thanks to the space between the glass windows and the tile wall outside which absorbs heat exposure and prevents them from coming inside.
