The hotel was constructed from 1993 to 1997. The 1997 Asian financial crisis and the 2002 SARS outbreak delayed the hotel's opening to March 5, 2004. In 2016, the acquisition by Marriott International marked a significant transformation, as Sheraton Hanoi Hotel has adapted the new brand identity yet continued to live by its positioning, "Where the World Gathers."

The hotel underwent continuous facility enhancements, including repainting in 2012 and 2022, refurbishments in 2018, the introduction of a new Sheraton Club lounge in 2023, and the transformation of bar Deja Vu into the Ho Tay function room, responding to the city’s rising banquet demand.

According to a hotel’s representative, in the middle of 2024, the Song Hong grand ballroom, Song Da Complete function room, and Hemispheres Steak & Seafood Grill restaurant will be renovated, promising to offer guests more inviting spaces for events, weddings, and dining experiences.

The hotel's culinary offerings embrace sustainability with the incorporation of cage-free eggs and a 30% plant-based craft menu. Looking ahead to 2024, its commitment to sustainability extends to installing electric vehicle chargers in the hotel parking lot and minimizing energy usage across the operations.
