Resembling an Asian dragon, the bridge crosses the Duong River, a tributary of the Red River, which flows from Southwest China through northern Vietnam to the Gulf of Tonkin.
Work started on the bridge in 2018.
The project is now 90% complete and will be put into service in late June. The bridge is projected to cost some VND1.927 trillion (US$82.6 million) in total.
Workers started installing the bridge's five arches in March.
Installing the arches necessitated a crane that weighs 800 tons itself.
The parapet of the bridge is still under construction.
Work remaining on the bridge includes paving its surface with asphalt and concrete, setting up rails and installing its lighting system.
Once completed, the bridge will boost connectivity in the Red River Delta, home to the capital city of Hanoi as well as the major port city Hai Phong and Quang Ninh Province. These hubs will be connected with the northeastern provinces of Bac Giang, Thai Nguyen and Hai Duong.
A road leading to the bridge has been completed.
The road leading to the other side of the bridge is currently being paved.
