The road is now separated by half.
According to Dak Nong’s Transport Department, the section has not been fixed as it has not found an inspection consulting unit.
As per regulations, the company that built the highway is in charge of hiring an independent consulting firm and based on that result, inspectors from the department will come up with a final assessment and plan to resolve the problem.
The cracked area belongs to a section 70 km long that was built using the state budget in 2010.
After that, it was upgraded and expanded under the build-operate-transfer (BOT) format by Duc Long Dak Nong BOT and BT Joint- Stock Company at the cost of VND1.2 trillion.
The upgrade was completed, and the section was put into use in 2015.
Drivers have had to avoid the cracked section for almost half a year.
Truck driver Nguyen Xuan Cuong, 43, who usually uses the highway, said the route is normally quite busy and he could not understand why the authorities have done nothing to fix it.
"It would be dangerous for those who are not familiar with the road when driving through this area at night," he said.
Authorities have blocked two lanes of the road on a section nearly 500 meters long.
A coffee shop nearby has taken advantage of that to hang decorative lights across the street.
