Many houses along Duong Quang Ham Street have been dismantled as their owners moved away from the street for a project to widen it.
Costing VND2.3 trillion (US$94.6 million), the project will enlarge the street from 7-8 m to 32 m, while building new lighting and drainage systems and planting trees.
The section that will be widened stretches 2.5 km through Go Vap to the border with Binh Thanh District.

Of the fund for widening the street, VND1.75 trillion comes from Go Vap District and the rest will be covered by the city budget.

According to Go Vap's authorities, 425 houses must be cleared to create 49,000 sq.m of space for the expansion project.
Of them, there are 58 houses which will be completely cleared while the rest will only lose their fronts.
Tran Thanh Toan, 63, is going to give up his entire house for the project.
He is compensated VND2.1 billion (US$86,400) in total. Toan plans to move to District 12.
