After Typhoon Kalmaegi struck central Vietnam on Thursday night, the Phuoc Lanh – Van Canh railway section in Xuan Lanh Commune, Dak Lak Province, suffered extensive damage. This section is part of the North–South railway.
The storm caused over 100 meters of erosion, reaching a depth of nine meters. The entire track foundation collapsed, leaving the rails unsupported and sagging, completely halting train operations on the section.
The affected area is remote and difficult to access by road, situated more than 10 km from the nearest major station, Dieu Tri (Gia Lai), and approximately 30 km from Tuy Hoa (Dak Lak).
From a distance, the damaged railway resembles a suspension bridge, as the foundation and soil beneath it have been completely washed away.

To repair the damage, over 1,000 cubic meters of stone were transported to the site by more than 300 workers and dozens of machines on Saturday.
The stones were delivered by multiple freight trains and trucks. On the train wagons, workers took turns loading the stones onto specialized vehicles for the construction work in the collapsed area.

Dozens of steel cages were waiting below the embankment to be filled with stones and reinforce the eroded areas.
