A section of a newly inaugurated bridge in Tay Ninh Province collapsed on Sunday, just two weeks after its opening, sending vehicles plunging into a three-meter-deep chasm and leaving multiple people injured.

A section of the road sinks down below, producing a fracture that spans over 35 meters in length.

At around 4 a.m. on Sunday, Nguyen Van Tinh, 43, was driving a car across the bridge with three passengers inside when the vehicle fell into the chasm. The car was flipped and damaged, while the four people inside were injured.

At the same time, two motorbikes carrying three people in total also fell into the chasm. All victims involved had been taken to Tay Ninh General Hospital.

The sinking has also produced fractures on the ground next to the road.

The vehicles involved were relocated from the site later on Sunday.

Le Ngoc An, chairman of the Chau Thanh District People's Committee, said that while the road was opened, it has not been inspected yet. Heavy rains in the area over the past few days may have contributed to the sinking, he said.

Authorities have barricaded the two ends of the road and instructed people to take alternative routes.
