About one kilometer away, sidewalks on Nam Ky Khoi Nghia and Nguyen Cong Tru Streets in District 1 have also been repaved with granite.

Pham Quach Truong Giang, Director of District 1's Investment and Construction Project Management Board, said that the district is renovating sidewalks on 37 streets, with a VND355 billion (US$13.9 million) state-funded budget.

The upgrades include granite paving, curb replacements, new manhole covers, and concrete mats at alley entrances.

Districts 3, Binh Thanh, and Phu Nhuan are also improving sidewalks. On Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street (District 3), sidewalks have been fully paved.

Additionally, authorities have started work to renovate 27 degraded alleys that span five km in total, at a cost of over VND19.5 billion.

The project is set to be completed by April 30.

The sidewalk along Dien Bien Phu Street in Binh Thanh District has undergone a complete upgrade with new terrazzo tiles.

Stretching over 5 kilometers with a width of nearly 10 meters, the renovated sidewalk also lays the groundwork for sidewalk rent in the future.

Several sidewalks remain under construction, including Ly Tu Trong Street in District 1, where warning signs mark ongoing work.

According to the District 1 Investment and Construction Project Management Board, the renovations aim to revitalize the city center's urban landscape.

Many sidewalks in the central district had deteriorated over the years, with sinking curbs and peeling surfaces, making pedestrian movement difficult and affecting the city's aesthetics. In 2024, authorities completed renovations on nine sidewalks, with a total cost of nearly VND49 billion.

A section of Pasteur Street's sidewalk (District 1) remains covered in dirt and stones as construction progresses.

Since renovations are happening simultaneously across multiple streets, authorities aim to minimize disruptions to daily life and businesses, with foundation digging and concrete pouring taking place at night and daytime work focusing on curb installation and tile placement to accelerate project completion.
