The roundabout at the Ben Thanh Market, in District 1, is one of the first in HCMC when it was built in 1914. It was removed in 2017 to make way for the construction of the Ben Thanh Metro Station.
The roundabout at the Hang Xanh Intersection, where Dien Bien Phu and Xo Viet Nghe Tinh streets converged, was removed in 2013 and an overpass was built there.
However, this intersection connects the east and center of HCMC. Despite building an overpass, the area still couldn’t handle a huge load of traffic during rush hour.
The Dai Liet Si Intersection in Binh Thanh is joined by five roads. This place doesn’t have a roundabout but a small triangle island was used to divide the directions.
Nguyen Thai Son roundabout at the intersection of six routes in Go Vap District was built nearly 10 years ago. It’s said to be too large and often causes traffic jams and so the city reduced the size and built an overpass there to keep the traffic flow stable.
Another intersection in Go Vap District that intersects six roads also shrunk its roundabout and built an overpass in 2017.
Vehicles stopped at the red light of the intersection on Friday. Every route that leads to this intersection has installed traffic lights.
Lang Cha Ca Intersection in Tan Binh District is an important traffic area of HCMC as it converges five big routes of the city, including one to the Tan Son Nhat International Airport.
Cay Go intersection is located in District 6 and District 11. It used to have a big roundabout, bit that has now been shrunken into a triangle and traffic lights were installed here. When traffic jams often happen here, the city decided to build an overpass here in 2013.
Recently, the HCMC Traffic Police proposed the removal of Dien Bien Phu roundabout which connects three big roads in District 1, and called for the installation of traffic lights here.
There are no traffic lights at the roundabout and that often causes traffic jams during rush hour.
After the proposal, the HCMC Department of Transport said that they are surveying the area and are planning to shrink the roundabout.
