The My Thuan-Can Tho expressway project’s main investor is the My Thuan Management Board, which is operating under the Ministry of Transport.
The 23-km project began construction in 2021, with a total investment capital of over VND4.8 trillion ($204.5 million). One end is connected to the My Thuan 2 bridge project, and the other with the Cha Va bridge, both in Vinh Long Province.
On the Vinh Long side, construction of two pillars at the My Thuan 2 bridge have been completed.
The bridge will span over 6.6 km, crossing the Tien River and connecting Tien Giang and Vinh Long. Its total investment cost is expected to reach VND5 trillion.
Construction of the bridge began in March 2020, and is slated for completion by the end of 2023. The bridge will have six lanes and construction is now 78% completed.
The area connecting the road leading onto the My Thuan 2 bridge and the My Thuan-Can Tho expressway is under construction. Now 62% complete, this part of the project is being undertaken by a team of over 300 engineers, workers and managers.
In October 2022, four contractors working on the project were warned by the state-run main investor for running behind schedule.
Engineer Pham Dinh Binh leads construction connecting the expressway with the road leading onto the My Thuan 2 bridge on April 26.
"We deploy personnel and vehicles to do construction throughout the Reunification Day-Labor Day holiday to ensure progress by the end of the year," he said.
Road rollers are used at a construction site on the road connected to the Tap Doan 13 bridge, the first bridge on the My Thuan-Can Tho expressway.
Once completed, the expressway will have six lanes a total of 32 meters wide.
