As of Saturday, aerial views showed the road segment stretching from the intersection with Phan Thuc Duyen Street to Hoang Hoa Tham Street in Tan Binh District, curving alongside Tan Son Nhat International Airport. The project, combined with the expansion of Hoang Hoa Tham Street, will enter its first phase on Tuesday, easing travel during the Lunar New Year holiday, which peaks on Jan. 19.
The connector road project, with a total investment of over VND4.8 trillion (US$189.5 million), spans approximately 4 km and includes branch roads, an elevated bridge, and an underpass. It begins at the Tran Quoc Hoan - Phan Thuc Duyen intersection and ends at the junction of C12, Cong Hoa, and Truong Chinh streets. The project aims to alleviate traffic congestion around the airport gateway and provide direct access to Tan Son Nhat's upcoming domestic Terminal 3.
In the first phase, the 1.25-km section of the Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa connector road opens to traffic. This segment, starting at Phan Thuc Duyen Street and ending at Hoang Hoa Tham Street, is already being used by vehicles.
The road is 28-48 meters wide, featuring six lanes with a maximum speed limit of 50 km/h. At its starting point, it intersects with Thang Long Street and connects to the Tran Quoc Hoan - Phan Thuc Duyen underpass.
Ahead of the opening, nearly 1 km of the road was fitted with traffic lines, signage, paved sidewalks, and greenery. This section has been operational since late 2024 to alleviate traffic pressure on Cong Hoa Street.

At the midpoint of the road, a flyover leading to Terminal 3 is under construction. The flyover spans 988 meters, is 17 meters wide, and has four lanes. It is nearing completion, with final connections to Terminal 3 expected soon.

The remaining section from Hoang Hoa Tham Street to the road’s endpoint is delayed due to land clearance issues. Currently, 22 houses need to be cleared. Tan Binh District authorities are urging residents to hand over land to the investor before Feb. 20.
Once resolved, the entire connector road is expected to be fully operational by April 30, coinciding with the opening of Tan Son Nhat Airport’s Terminal 3.

Additionally, the Phan Thuc Duyen - Tran Quoc Hoan underpass, completed and opened in August last year, spans over 400 meters with a total investment of VND200 billion. Running beneath Hoang Van Thu Park, the underpass is part of the Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa connector road project.
These completed projects will create a new gateway to the airport, relieving the bottleneck at the sole entrance on Truong Son Street and reducing congestion in the Tan Son Nhat Airport area. The new road will also provide direct access to Terminal 3, which has a capacity of 20 million passengers.
