The second metro line of HCMC passes through six districts – 1, 3, 10, 12, Tan Binh and Tan Phu, on a span of 11 km, of which 9.3 km are underground, and the rest is elevated. The project has a total investment of VND47.8 trillion ($2 billion).

The design of the Tao Dan station on Cach Mang Thang Tam Street, District 1. This is the first underground station on the metro line. Tao Dan station has three underground floors, of which B1 is the ticket area and function room. B2 is where passengers get off from other stations, while B3 is where passengers get on. There will be stairs and elevators on all three floors.

The underground area of the metro line included two parallel tunnels and each of them has a diameter of 7 m and is located 16-30 m underground. At each station, there are entrance and exit for passengers.

The design ideas for the trains of the new metro line, embrace modernity and bold colors. Each train will have three carriages with a length of 66 m, a capacity of 810 and a design speed of 80 kph.

Currently, land clearance on Cach Mang Thang Tam Street is being implemented. So far, the land clearance process of the project has reached 87%.

The Ben Thanh – Tham Luong was initially expected to be completed in 2026, but has been extended to 2030 due to existing problems.
