Chronis greeted the audience after presenting his new collection “Sultry Saigon Night.” He danced to disco music then suddenly turned around and got on one knee in front of his girlfriend. She couldn’t hold back her tears before saying yes to the proposal.
Chronis had kept his plan a secret, even from the event’s organizers.
The 61-year-old designer is famous in Australia for his multiple fashion brands for both men and women, including Christopher Chronis Designs, Gas Station and Christos. He’s currently the head designer at Global Designer Brands.
For the new collection, Chronis took inspiration from Saigon in the 1990s, in celebration of 50 years of diplomatic relations between Australia and Vietnam. The collection features 70 designs using bold and brilliant colors.
Chronis showcased colorful street images of Saigon in suits and blazers, as well as casual and flare pants.
He matched the outfits with accessories such as large round earrings, turbans or large belts. Models wore rebellious makeup with smoky eyes, and curly, puffy, or messy hair.
