Tien Son Sports Center was built on an area of 94,000 square meters on Phan Dang Luu Street, Hai Chau District. The gymnasium block includes a basement and three floors on an area of more than 10,400 square meters. It's designed to imitate the shape of a UFO.

Construction for the center started in July 2009 at a cost of $42 million. In December 2010, the project went into operation to serve the Vietnam National Games.

The project is invested, managed and operated by Da Nang Department of Culture and Sports. Many national and regional sports tournaments, cultural and artistic events and exhibitions have been held here.

At the moment, the gymnasium still hold events regularly. The second floor's outdoor space is a place for entertainment and extracurricular activities for many students. The trash bins here are often overloaded and have an unpleasant smell.

Many pillars at the second floor entrance gate were damaged with graffiti all over them. Due to mold and mildew, wild plants kept growing on these pillars but nobody has cleaned them.

Along the walls of the building are tangled electrical wires and cables. The bottom of the gutters filled with garbage and have not been cleaned for a long time.

In August 2020, the gymnasium of Tien Son was requisitioned as a field hospital to treat Covid-19 patients, with a capacity of 700 beds.

There's a skylight at the second floor and a resting spot with what were wooden benches. Over time, the wood has rotted leaving only the stainless steel frame. Many people have had to put bricks in these frames to sit.

The internal road on the first floor became a parking area, filling the entire walkway. The skylight next to the walkway also becomes a place for storing garbage and rarely used items.

The outside of the center is also dirty, with some parts of the streets used as a garbage collection point.

Pham Tan Tru, director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Da Nang, said he would inspect and assign the unit who is managing Tien Son Sports Center to fix the situation.
