After winning the mixed doubles badminton gold medal on Aug. 2, China's Huang Yaqiong was surprised when her boyfriend Liu Yuchen proposed. Liu is also a Chinese badminton player competing at the Paris Games.

American rower Justin Best proposed to his girlfriend Lainey Duncan at the foot of the Eiffel Tower with nearly 3,000 yellow roses on Aug. 5 after winning the Olympics gold medal.

Despite not winning a medal in the 3,000m hurdles final, French athlete Alice Finot ran to the sidelines, knelt down and proposed to her boyfriend Bruno Martínez Bargiela on Aug. 7. Bargiela was a little surprised but accepted the proposal and the couple hugged each other amid the applause of their families and spectators. Finot's fiancé is a triathlon athlete.
"I told myself that if I ran under nine minutes, knowing that nine is my lucky number and that we've been together for nine years, then I would propose," Finot said after the proposal at the Stade de France.
"I don't like doing things like everyone else. Since he hadn't done it yet, I thought maybe it was up to me."

Before rowers Sarah Steyaert and Charlotte Picon competed in the Paris Olympics, their boyfriends said they would get engaged if they won a gold or silver medal. Although the French duo only won bronze, their boyfriends were waiting on the shore with engagement rings on Aug. 2.

Italian gymnast Alessia Maurelli was surprised and moved when her boyfriend Massimo Bertelloni proposed shortly after she and her teammates won bronze on Aug. 10. The couple have been together for two years.
