Prince Abdul Mateen, 32, got married to his 29-year-old newlywed bride Anisha Rosnah, in a lavish wedding that lasted from Jan. 7 to 16, helping to put Brunei in the global limelight.
Their wedding welcomed 5,000 domestic and international guests, including world leaders and royalty.
The entire wedding ceremony took place at the Istana Nurul Iman palace in Brunei's capital Bandar Seri Begawan, also the residence of the country's Royal Family.
The official home of the 29th Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah, and the seat of the Brunei government, the palace covers an area of 200,000 square meters and contains 1,788 rooms.
The palace is only open during Hari Raya Aidilfitri, an annually celebrated festival marking the end of the month of Muslim fasting, also defined as Ramadan (mid-September) as tourists are allowed to go inside.
The palace was designed by Filipino architect Leandro Locsin, combining Malay style with domes and Islamic architectures (golden arches and domes) along with modern European architectural features.
The project uses many materials such as Italian marble, granite, silk from China and glass from England.
Gold and marble are the main decorative materials, in which the large dome is also plated with real gold.
The palace has 257 bathrooms, five swimming pools, air-conditioned stables for 200 polo horses, a helipad and a magnificent mosque with a capacity of 1,500 people.
The wedding party was decorated with fresh flowers.
White, pink, purple and yellow were chosen as the main colors of the party held at Balai Persapan inside the palace.
The banquet hall is capable of accomodating 5,000 guests at a time.
