The streets of resort town Sa Pa attract many nocturnal visitors with their alluring activities.

Sa Pa Square, the area in front of Stone Church, in Sa Pa of northern Lao Cai Province is usually packed with tourists from around 7 to 9:30 p.m.

Every Saturday at 7 p.m, Khen panpipe playing and dancing are staged here by H'mong ethnic men.

Chestnuts are a commodity many tourists choose to buy as gifts.

A motorbike taxi driver on Thach Son Street said there are many people here at night these days because of the nice weather.

Mai Trinh, a visitor from Ho Chi Minh City, said: “Before I came, I did not think Sa Pa would be so bustling. In fact, the streets were very crowded. I really like the atmosphere here because it’s as cool as Da Lat. However, I find the traffic still a bit messy. There is some noise and light pollution."

Around Sa Pa Lake, people gather to enjoy the atmosphere, drink coffee or play shuttlecock, as seen here on Xuan Vien Street at around 9:30 p.m.

In the cold weather, about 12-13 degrees Celsius, sidewalk barbeque stalls on Thach Son and Cau May streets are sizzling with life.

The average price for a barbeque meal here is from VND15,000 ($0.65) to VND40,000. Some favored dishes include northwestern region-style dried sausage, grilled pork skewers, pork rolls, and buffalo jerky.

Hue, a barbeque shop owner on Ngu Chi Son Street, said: “There are quite a lot of customers this weekend, I sold nearly twice the amount of normal days. In the past weeks, it was raining so there were not many customers coming here."

The Sa Pa product display center, located opposite the square, also has many visitors shopping for commodities such as agricultural and brocade products.

It is estimated that from the beginning of 2020 until now, Sa Pa has welcomed 1.2 million visitors. In 2019, this number was 3.5 million, according to the Lao Cai Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
