It received the Gold Certificate, the highest level of a three-tier ranking recognized by the China Tourism Academy, China's main governmental research and promotion institute under the management of the Chinese National Tourism Authority.
The certification is awarded only to facilities that have introduced special services for Chinese tourists, with each of the services corresponding to standards of quality recommended by China's tourism authorities.
Da Nang Airport's international terminal is the only Southeast Asian representative to be awarded with such a certificate.
There are 11 criteria that Da Nang International Terminal has met based on requirements of the Welcome Chinese certification.
All signages inside and outside the terminal is written in Chinese, in addition to Vietnamese, English, and Korean.
Service counters offer payment methods popular with Chinese tourists such as UnionPay and WeChat Pay. Tax refund counters are also available inside the terminal.
The terminal offers free Wi-Fi service and Chinese-speaking staff that meet requirements of the certification.
Its website is also shown in Chinese along other languages.
Free hot water at food stalls is also a necessary criterion to be eligible for receiving the certificate.
A flight departure and arrival board is also shown in Chinese.
"This certificate showed that Da Nang international terminal understands and fully meets the needs of Chinese tourists, helping to promote Da Nang as a convenient and attractive destination for Chinese tourists," said a representative of Da Nang International Terminal Investment and Operations.
Elsewhere, Italy has four airports, with France, Russia, Spain, Saudi Arabia each having one representative to be issued with the Welcome Chinese certificate.
As of Oct. 31, the terminal welcomed nearly 26,900 flights with more than 4 million arrivals and departures.
The terminal was inaugurated in May 2017 at a cost of VND3.5 trillion (US$144 million) to serve the 2017 APEC Summit Week. It was built on a campus of 21,000 square meters with a capacity of up to six million passengers a year.
In March, Da Nang Airport's international terminal became the first and only terminal in Vietnam to be rated four stars by SkyTrax, the world's leading airport and airline rating organization.
