Readers of U.S. magazine Travel + Leisure have selected 10 best city hotels in Vietnam, with Ho Chi Minh City leading the pack with five representatives, followed by Hanoi and Da Nang.

Topping this year's list is Sheraton Saigon Hotel & Towers on the iconic Dong Khoi Street, formerly known as Rue Catinat and made famous by Graham Greene’s novel "The Quiet American."

The hotel features 485 rooms and suites that offer views of Dong Khoi, one of the city's busiest tourist streets lined with an array of shopping centers, restaurants and hotels.

"It has an unbeatable location in the center of the city. We loved that we could walk everywhere to all the trendy bars, restaurants and tourist attractions," a reader commented.

Capella Hanoi, which opened in 2021 amid the Covid pandemic, came second on the list.

Standing on Le Phung Hieu Street in Hanoi's Old Quarter, just a few steps from the Hanoi Opera House, the hotel has 47 rooms and suites, each individually styled with operatic artifacts and custom portraiture that pay tribute to Opera artists, composers, designers and performances.

A night's stay costs from VND6.5 million ($283.31) per person.

Just around 100 meters from Dong Khoi Street, Park Hyatt Saigon, which overlooks the Saigon Opera House, came third on the list.

Opened in 2005, the hotel has 245 rooms with its architecture inspired by the French colonial period. It is located just a few steps from tourist hotspots like Notre Dame Cathedral and Central Post Office.

Founded in 1901, Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi was fourth on the list.

Just around 160 meters from St. Joseph's Cathedral, it is one of the oldest hotels in Hanoi and used to serve former U.S. presidents, including Barack Obama, during their visits to Vietnam.

The hotel has a total 364 rooms with a touch of French architecture.

It is home to a two-meter-high wartime bomb shelter discovered by chance in 2011. It was where many famous figures of the Vietnam War, including actress Jane Fonda and author Tom Hayden, both anti-war activists, took refugee as bombs rained down on Hanoi.

Located at the corner of Nguyen Du and Hai Ba Trung streets in District 1, InterContinental Saigon came fifth.

It has 305 rooms that feature floor-to-ceiling windows and marble bathrooms and offer breathtaking views of Le Duan Boulevard that is home to skyscrapers and foreign embassies.

Sixth place was occupied by Hotel des Arts Saigon – Mgallery in HCMC’s District 3.

Opened in 2015, the 24-storey hotel has a total 168 rooms and boasts the city’s highest rooftop infinity pool that allows guests to explore the southern metropolis from above.

Located on Nguyen Hue Boulevard in downtown HCMC, Reverie Saigon Hotel was seventh on the list.

The hotel has 286 rooms that combine modern design and traditional Italian craftsmanship.

It has a 24-meter-long swimming pool decorated with unique tiles on the sixth floor where guests can enjoy music from the underwater sound system.

From 6 p.m. each evening there is an artistic light show beneath the pool.

The InterContinental Hanoi Landmark 72, the tallest luxury 5-star hotel in Hanoi, came in eighth position.

The hotel opened in 2017 in Keangnam Hanoi Landmark Tower in Cau Giay District with 359 luxury rooms and 34 suites.

Nestled by the West Lake, a popular hangout of the expat community in Hanoi, InterContinental Hanoi Westlake secured ninth place.

With 293 rooms and suites, the hotel is close to Hanoi’s places of interest like Thang Long Water Puppet Theater and Fine Arts Museum.

All rooms here are wood-paneled, have a minibar and a private balcony overlooking the West Lake.

Located on Vo Nguyen Giap Street in the coastal city of Da Nang, Fusion Suites Da Nang rounded out the list.

The hotel has 124 rooms that offer views of long, sandy beaches.
