Three days before Tet, which begins on Saturday, Hoi An is sunny and not cold. Stores on central streets are still open as usual.
The atmosphere is peaceful without the hustle and bustle like other days of the year.
Downtown streets of Hoi An such as Tran Phu (pictured), Phan Chu Trinh, Bach Dang, Nguyen Thai Hoc are all empty.
Foreign tourists walk around the town to enjoy the Tet atmosphere.
Local people said that normally Hoi An would be deserted in the days leading up to Tet. Only after the first day of Tet, Hoi An becomes crowded again when tourists from all over the country flock there to enjoy their vacation.
The streets are cleaned up while local people decorate their houses with pots of chrysanthemums, kumquat trees or other ornamental plants.
Many families repaint walls, doors, curtains and replace old items to welcome the Year of the Dragon.
To prepare for Tet, the central streets are decorated and renovated.
