Ho Chi Minh City has recorded the highest number of flight bookings during the five-day holiday starting this weekend, followed by Hanoi and Da Nang, data from Indonesia-based travel platform Traveloka shows.

On April 23, the travel platform announced top 10 cities in Vietnam with the highest number of flight bookings during the Reunification Day and May Day holidays.

The results were based on an analysis of flight bookings from April 27 to May 1.

Vietnam’s southern metropolis is expected to get busy during the upcoming holiday as the city will set off fireworks shows at 16 venues, mainly across the Saigon River (pictured) on the night of April 30.

State-owned museums such as the HCMC War Remnants Museum in District 3, HCMC Museum of History and HCMC Museum in District 1 will offer free entry to the public as part of the city’s activities to celebrate the 49th anniversary of Reunification Day.

In Hanoi, in addition to historical attractions such as Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Hoa Lo Prison, and Long Bien Bridge, visitors can explore relics and cultural heritages such as the Temple of Literature, Thang Long Imperial Citadel, Hoan Kiem Lake, Ngoc Son Temple, One Pillar Pagoda.

Some cultural attractions on the outskirts of Hanoi such as Quang Phu Cau incense village and Phu Xa weaving village have been attracting visitors recently.

Visitors can also go camping and trekking at nature-friendly destinations such as Thu Le park, Yen So park, Ham Lon Mountain (pictured), Dong Mo and Tram mountain.

Possessing a long and beautiful coastline, Da Nang, home to long, sandy beaches, becomes an ideal choice for Vietnamese tourists who seek to escape the ongoing heatwave.

Tourists can swim at beaches, visit scenic spots such as Marble Mountains, Son Tra Peninsula, Linh Ung Pagoda and Ban Co Peak where American tech billionaire Bill Gates recently enjoyed a tea session.

Da Nang is about 30 km from Hoi An ancient city. From Da Nang to Hue, visitors can take a train ride through Hai Van Pass (pictured).

Quy Nhon, a coastal city of Binh Dinh Province, ranked fourth on the list of 10 cities with the highest flight bookings.

The city is famous for its attractions such as Ky Co - Eo Gio beaches, Nhon Hai fishing village, Ghenh Rang Tien Sa tourist area and Cham towers.

This city has night markets and walking streets for visitors to discover specialty dishes from seafood to grilled spring rolls at affordable prices.

The beach city of Nha Trang came in fifth.

Visitors can walk along the April 2 central square on Tran Phu Street to explore night markets or rent a boat to explore islands on Nha Trang Bay, and even trek up to Co Tien Mountain at the height of 400 meters above sea level with three adjacent peaks.

In sixth place is a tourist destination familiar to domestic and foreign tourists - Phu Quoc.

The island city is home to high-end hotels and resorts, with many recreational and relaxing activities at sea such as diving to see coral reefs, kayaking, paragliding, and art performances.

Vinh City in Nghe An Province, home to Cua Lo beach (pictured), ranked seventh in Traveloka's survey.

In addition to sea tourism, visitors can explore Lotus Village in President Ho Chi Minh's hometown, Con Mo relic of the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement, Vinh ancient citadel and Quyet Mountain tourist area - home of the ancient Vietnamese people and Pu Mat national park.

The Central Highlands city of Da Lat stood in eighth place.

Famous for its year-round cool climate, the city becomes a hot destination at this time as many parts of the southern region are suffering a heat wave with outdoor temperatures rising to over 40 degrees Celsius.

Those who love watching clouds, watching sunsets and camping overnight in the mountains can visit Da Phu hill, Cau Dat tea hill, and Hon Bo peak.

In 9th position on the list is the famous coastal city of Hai Phong, famous for its food tours.

In addition to swimming at Cat Ba, Do Son and Lan Ha Bay, visiting the monuments of the Mac Dynasty, Kim Son communal house, visitors can enjoy specialties such as crab cake soup (pictured), spicy bread, spicy fish vermicelli, crab spring rolls, red jellyfish with dipping sauce.

Buon Ma Thuot, the largest city in the Central Highlands, famous for its coffee specialties, finishes the top 10.

Some popular famous attractions there include the World Coffee Museum with a special design with a typical long house of the Central Highlands, Buon Don tourist center which is an elephant taming site, along with cultural and culinary diversity of ethnic minorities.

In addition, tourists can visit Ea Kao Lake, Serepok River and experience glamping service on Lak Lake, the second largest natural freshwater lake in the country, after Ba Be Lake.

Visitors can enjoy specialties of the Central Highlands such as bitter eggplant and anchovy salad, bamboo tube rice, ash soup, and stone moss soup.
