The People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has approved a design to renovate the Saigon riverbank on the side of Thu Duc City as proposed earlier by the Department of Planning and Architecture.
The site that will get a facelift lies across the river from the Bach Dang Wharf Park in District 1.
The renovation will be carried out along a 50-m-wide section on the 830-m stretch between the Ba Son Bridge and the Thu Thiem Tunnel.
Bamboo trees and other plants will be built around a barrier that already exists along a section of 200 m by the riverbank, forming a green wall.
An artist's impression of a renovated riverbank with many green areas combined with walking paths. In the distance is Ba Son Bridge, which has been put into use for more than a year now.
A ferris wheel will be installed on the roof of Thu Thiem tunnel, creating a highlight for the area.
Nearby, in front of Thu Thiem Church, large LED screens will be installed for the purpose of promotions, and creating light at night.
An artificial landscape is arranged next to walking paths.
Benches will be built next to rows of decorative flowers and gravel paths along the lawn.
An existing pier by the riverbank will be upgraded to serve both cargo transport and tourism.
The department plans to solicit private investment for the work, which it hopes to finish this year so that there will be a new-look peninsula before New Year 2024.
