Vietnamese singer joins School Hygiene day in Quang Tri

On the morning of Dec. 3, the Hope Foundation, in collaboration with Opella Vietnam and the Enterogermina brand, along with the People's Committee of Thuong Trach Commune, held a School Hygiene Day program at Bo Trach Ethnic Boarding School.

Some 277 students from the Bru-Van Kieu ethnic group exchanged knowledge on school hygiene through activities including quizzes, handwashing games, statue coloring, tug-of-war, and drawing contests.

The event featured singer and composer Bui Cong Nam, who kicked off the day by dancing the "Handwashing Dance" with the students.

The quiz segment drew a large crowd of participants, with many students raising hands to answer each question. Correct answers earned stuffed bears as prizes.

After the opening ceremony, students divided by grade to play group games like tug-of-war.

Nam joined students in creating drawings on the theme of hygiene and environment.

The artist expressed his appreciation for participating in the event. He said seeing the students at Bo Trach Ethnic Boarding School reminded him of his own childhood, that the School Hygiene project is highly meaningful, as it promotes health to help the children grow strong and continue their journeys ahead.

Students received gifts after drawing and presenting their artworks. The activities were designed to be engaging, helping students naturally and enjoyably absorb hygiene knowledge.

Another group of students focused on coloring statues under the shade of trees.

Y Mien, a sixth-grade student, said it was her first time coloring a statue herself.

"Most of us come from difficult circumstances in remote areas, so our parents rarely take us to playgrounds or bookstores for this," Mien said, adding that she enjoyed coloring the rabbit figure and planned to take it home as a keepsake.

On this occasion, Hope Foundation and Opella Vietnam handed over a new sanitation facility and a bathroom with a hot water system to Bo Trach Ethnic Boarding School.

These are two of 21 sanitation and bathroom facilities in Bo Trach funded by Hope Foundation and Opella Vietnam, and Enterogermina.

Students received coloring books on school hygiene themes to learn through play.

They also got gift kits including tote bags, water bottles, soaps, toothbrushes, toothpastes, and coloring books on personal hygiene themes. These items and materials aim to encourage clean and healthy habits in study and daily life.

Mai Thi Thanh Huong, External Affairs Director at Opella Vietnam, said the company’s support extends beyond infrastructure to promoting good hygiene practices so students can learn to care for themselves and their communities.

“We hope the project will expand and serve as a model for replication in more schools and localities, allowing students to focus on learning and development,” she said.

Opella Vietnam has partnered with the Hope Foundation’s School Hygiene project for four years. To date, the collaboration has supported construction of 80 sanitation facilities, benefiting more than 26,500 students and teachers across provinces including Son La, Ha Giang, Yen Bai, Lai Chau, and former Quang Binh (now part of Quang Tri).
