An Air Force Two aircraft carrying the vice president landed at Noi Bai at around 9:45 p.m., several hours later than schedule.
Harris waves to the welcoming applause as she steps out of the aircraft. She will be in Vietnam between August 24 and 26 for an official visit upon the invitation of her counterpart Vo Thi Anh Xuan, following a visit to Singapore.
This is the first trip to Vietnam by a U.S. vice president.
Le Khanh Hai (L), member of the Party Central Committee and Chairman of the Presidential Office, and Nguyen Quoc Dung (R), Vietnam's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, welcome Harris at the airport.
They wore masks and greeted her by putting their hands on their chests, instead of the usual handshakes.
Harris is all smiles as she steps down the aircraft.
She is scheduled to launch the U.S.'s Southeast Asia CDC office in Hanoi on Wednesday afternoon.

The official visit came as the two countries have seen increasing cooperation in different fields, including maritime security and Covid-19 pandemic control.
Vietnam is among the top 10 recipient countries under a U.S. program to share millions of doses to improve global vaccination rates.
In 2020, despite the pandemic, bilateral trade grew by 19.8 percent to $90.8 billion.
