The Nguyen Hue flower street opened to the public on Monday night after over two weeks in construction. It is the 22nd year the street is opened.
At around 7 p.m., an hour before the street opened, thousands of people had gathered at the site to enter it. Security guards were present to maintain order.
After the opening ceremony, people poured into the flower street. The main gates, located near the HCMC People's Committee, were the most crowded, where two snake mascots could be seen, representing the incoming Year of the Snake.
Droves of people try to take photos with the snake mascots. 70% of the mascots are made of environmentally friendly materials.

Vo Thanh Nhat, 38, takes a photo with his family at the flower street. This is the second time his family visit the Nguyen Hue flower street.
"We knew the opening day would be crowded, but we wanted to go anyway," Nhat said.
Tuong Vy, 21, showcases a modiefied version of ao dai at the flower street.
"Every year, I see that the flower street has its own beauty and shows the spirit of spring in Saigon," she said.
At the center of the flower street are two robots, each weighing 500 kg and can move and talk in different languages.
The robots are decorated with wild flowers. They can also show facial expression through LED screens.
