9pm, over Saigon River Tunnel, the first sparks of the night shot to the sky to the cheering of thousands.
There were four firework shows scattered across the city. High-level fireworks were shot from the Saigon River Tunnel. The show, organized by the city’s People’s Committee, was funded by the municipal budget.
Along Ton Duc Thang, Nguyen Hue, Ham Nghi and Vo Van Kiet, tens of thousands of people gathered to celebrate 41 years of Vietnam’s unification.
Van Nhu Tuyet (Thu Duc district) came with her children as early as 7pm. “We came early to get a good spot. This year’s firework display has been the best among recent ones,” said Tuyet.
The Thorens from New Zealand also joined the crowd to enjoy the firework display to celebrate Vietnam’s unification. “We’ve just arrived and stumbled upon this event so we joined in. Your firework display is beautiful; people are very friendly,” the couple said.
Many expressed their regret after having to jostle for two to three hours just to find the best spot to witness a 15 minute show.
