This is Chinh's first official visit to Singapore as a Vietnamese prime minister.

The visit happened as Vietnam and Singapore are celebrating 50 years of diplomatic relations and 10 years of strategic partnership.

Singapore is Vietnam's largest investor in Southeast Asia, and the second-largest globally.

During Chinh's visit, the prime ministers would sign memorandums regarding economic cooperation between the two countries, among others.

Singapore's National Heritage Board erected the monument in 2008 in commemoration of the 118th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday, as well as the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Singapore.

Chinh and his wife visit the National Orchid Garden, with over 3,000 orchid and hybrid species.

Singapore has named a hybrid orchid species "Papilionanda Pham Le Tran Chinh," after Chinh and his wife's names.
