The Nguyen Hue Flower Street was inaugurated for the 2024 Lunar New Year on Wednesday evening.
Stretching about 700 meters, this 21st edition of the flower street features a pair of dragon mascots at the entrance gate near the city hall.
First introduced in 2004, Nguyen Hue Flower Street has become a cultural hallmark of Saigon's Tet and an indispensable activity for local residents during the holiday.
The entrance to the flower street was packed with people taking photos and videos of the moving, "roaring" dragon mascots.
Each mascot, about 120 meters long, set a record for the size of mascots displayed on the flower street over the last 21 years.
The dragons' bodies, brightly colored and intertwined, stood over 10 meters high, creating a visually stunning overhead canopy.
A family took a selfie at the entry to the flower street.
"The flower street is more beautiful than ever," Phuong Lan (L), the mother, said.
Gold-plated Bodhi trees are displayed on the flower street.
According to the organizers, this year's flower street featured 99 types of flowers with over 90,000 flower baskets.
The decorations are dominated by three main colors: red, orange, and yellow, and more than 70% of the materials used for the flower street are bamboo and rattan to make it environmentally friendly.
At the end of the flower street is a grand scene of the dragon mascot, which is made of metal and covered in LED lights.
