The C-17 military transport aircraft, numbered 33126, touched down at the capital city's airport at 3:55 p.m. on Friday.
This is the first cargo flight serving President Joe Biden's visit to Vietnam, which has been scheduled for Sept. 10-11.
The C-17 Globemaster III is a heavyweight military aircraft developed by Berkeley-based aerospace manufacturing firm McDonnell Douglas at the end of the 1980s for strategic and tactical transportation, capable of carrying weapons and soldiers to any location in the world. Each aircraft is 53 m long.
After 30 years of service, the C-17 Globemaster III is considered the backbone of American military transportation as well as the go-to vehicle for its leaders during foreign visits.
This is not the first time Noi Bai has ever received C-17.
Aircraft of this class landed at the airport several times during the North Korea-U.S. summit held in Hanoi in February 2019.
A truck carrying packages unloaded from the C-17 arrives at JW Marriott Hotel Hanoi on Do Duc Duc Street of Nam Tu Liem District in the capital.
More cargo flights to serve President Biden’s trip to Vietnam have been scheduled for arrival at Noi Bai on Monday and Tuesday.
The U.S. and Vietnam governments announced the visit to Vietnam by U.S. President Joe Biden at the invitation of General Party Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong earlier this week.
The visit will be the first by President Biden since assuming office in early 2021, and will happen as the countries celebrate 10 years of Comprehensive Partnership.
