Situated 50 km from downtown HCMC, Can Gio District spreads 71,300 hectares and has a population of more than 70,000. It is the city’s only district situated by the sea, and has a coastline of 23 km.

It is home to many rivers, canals and the first UNESCO mangrove biosphere reserve in Vietnam.

HCMC authorities have recently unveiled a detailed new 1/5,000 scale zoning plan for a resort town there.

The plan for the Can Gio seaside resort town comprises five subdivisions: A (conference center, children's entertainment center, cultural, commercial and service buildings), B (cultural, sports and commercial and service center), C and D (commercial and service projects), E (parks, public spaces, artificial sea).

The town will spread over 2,870 ha and have a population of more than 228,000.

The theme park in subdivision A will have green areas, lakes and landscapes.

The subdivision has been enlarged in an amended plan from 771 ha to nearly 954 ha. It will be meant for amusement with a theme park, golf course and high-class resort. The amended plan has a complex with convention centers, squares and more greenery.

It is planned around a complex of cultural and sports facilities, with stadiums at major intersections.

This subdivision will have clusters of high-rise buildings for commercial purposes.

Zone E will be in the middle, and measure around 457 hectares. It is planned as an open space comprising water and landscapes.

The highlight of this area will be a bridge linking with Hai Dang Cape.

The main road in the center of the town. It will be the axis connecting areas A, B, C, D, making them a closed loop and linking the main functional areas. Along this route will be townhouses and commercial facilities.

According to the latest comprehensive plan, around VND76 trillion (US$3.24 billion) will be needed for technical infrastructure and buildings to make it a resort town.

Of this, VND32.5 trillion is earmarked for infrastructure and VND43.7 trillion for refurbishment of building projects.

The intersection of Can Thanh and Long Hoa boulevards, which will be around 120m wide, is the most important traffic axis in the whole project, and will link the mainland with the new town.

The government approved reclamation of land to develop Can Gio into a new urban area in June 2020 at a cost of VND217 trillion.

Can Gio Tourist City Corporation will invest VND32.5 trillion and the rest will come from commercial loans.

It will be developed over 50 years and completed in 2070.
