La Son-Tuy Loan Highway began construction in 2013, running from La Son Intersection in Thua Thien-Hue's Phu Loc District to Tuy Loan Intersection in Da Nang's Hoa Vang District.
The La Son-Hoa Lien section spans over 55 kilometers, starting from La Son Intersection to Hoa Lien Intersection in Da Nang's Hoa Vang District.
The Hoa Lien-Tuy Loan section spans 11.5 kilometers, connecting with Da Nang-Quang Ngai Highway.
The entire project costs over VND11.4 trillion ($497.7 million).
A car runs through Mui Trau Tunnel, which spans 1.3 kilometers and cost around VND1.5 trillion. It is the only tunnel of the highway.
Entrances leading into Mui Trau Tunnel are in Hoa Vang District's Hoa Bac Commune.
The management board for the Ho Chi Minh Road project, the main investor, handed over a 66 kilometer section of the La Son-Hoa Lien section to the Directorate for Roads in Vietnam for use. For now, there are no toll booths on the highway.
During the first phase of the project, roads are 12 meters wide with two lanes. The roads will be expanded in the second phase to 23-24 meters wide.

Some drivers have switched to using the highway instead of National Highway 1A and Hai Van Tunnel to avoid toll fees.
