Blankets were mobilized, lakes received surprise guests, and ice cubes became the hottest commodity. All for a sole purpose: to keep the heat at bay.
Fearsome temperatures were recorded in the early morning of June 1 in Hanoi as a heat wave swept across the northern part of Vietnam.
Temperatures in Hanoi hit a high of 38 degrees Celcius today.
"My job is to water the grass and plants from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. regardless of the weather," said a sweat-drenched worker at Hanoi Zoo.
