Hanoi recently extended its ongoing Covid-19 social distancing order amid a rising number of new infections, now expected to last until Aug. 23. The capital on Sunday also issued new requirements for those wishing to go out, but scrapped them a day later following numerous complaints.

The heavy rain rendered a Covid-19 checkpoint on Nguyen Chi Thanh temporarily inactive. Previously, gridlocks were often found at such checkpoints.
