The 28-km boulevard includes two highways, with three lanes in each direction; a median strip in the middle, and strips for trees and pavements on the side.
The boulevard plays an important role in Hanoi's development towards the western and south-western areas.
The boulevard hosts several tree species of different canopy levels. They have been planted to prevent erosion, reduce noise, improve air quality and add beauty to the landscape.
In 2017, rows of acacia trees were planted along the strips running through several Hanoi districts like Thach That, Hoai Duc and Quoc Oai. These trees grow quickly and are highly adaptable to severe weather conditions, making them cheaper to maintain.
Tarlmounia creepers adorn the sides of a tunnel near the National Convention Center.
"The Tarlmounia creepers have not been widely planted yet as conditions to grow them, including traffic and infrastructure, are not appropriate yet," said a representative of the Hanoi Green Trees Park Company.
Over 1,000 date palms were planted in 2017. They are now the tallest trees in the bunch with fronds that span 3 m. Palms that are over a decade old produce 10-20 new fronds a year.

A row of date palms in front of the National Convention Center have grown to a height of 3.5-4.5 meters.
Employees of the Hanoi Green Trees Park company regularly water, fertilize and prune trees along the boulevard. Depending on the weather and the season, the vegetation is also watered at different times.
