Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Minister of National Defense Phan Van Giang were present at the Gia Lam Airport on Wednesday morning to announce the opening ceremony for Vietnam International Defense Expo 2022.
The expo is participated by over 170 military companies and businesses from 30 countries and territories. It is also attended by over 250 delegations from both inside and outside of Vietnam, who come to the expo to showcase weaponry, equipment and technological solutions for multiple military forces.
Delegates press buttons to kick off the opening of the expo.
Chinh said the expo is an opportunity for policymakers and businesses to meet and have discussions aimed at creating a peaceful and prosperous world.
The expo also opens up opportunities for collaboration and provides a chance to look at technical development trends in the defense industry, he added.
At 9 a.m., a group of Mi-17 helicopters pulled the national flag and the expo flag into the tribune area as part of the opening performance.
A group of Su-30KM2s performs in the air. Eight fighter jets released flares into the air, forming a bright trail of light.
The so-called the King Cobra fighter jet, the Su-30MK2, is one of the most commercially successful Su-27 variants in aircraft manufacturing by the Sukhoi company.
The flares fired by the jets that are equipped on most modern fighter jets are a countermeasure against anti-aircraft missiles.
Chinh and other delegates waved their hands to greet the pilots as the jets flew over the tribune.
"This is an opportunity for us to strengthen relationships, and also an opportunity for Vietnam to welcome international friends, share its culture and art, and introduce the country and its people," Chinh said.
