These days, several dozen workers of the metro line can be seen on Le Loi Road, carrying out various kinds of repairs to return it to its original state before it was dug up to build a metro tunnel.
Construction of the tunnel began in 2016 and is 95 percent complete.
The 3,000-square-meter construction site now hosts trucks, cranes and other construction vehicles working to level the ground.
A worker uses an asphalt cutter to break a section of the road so that the ground can be leveled and the road laid again.
"We are all working fast to return the road to residents and businesses whose activities have been affected," he said.
"The fencing they set up leave little room for the pavement and so my business has suffered for years. We are all waiting for the day the road is given back," said Nguyen Thi Ha, 59-year-old owner of an office stationery shop.
Restoration of Le Loi road is set to be completed by September.
The Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien Metro, or Metro Line 1, will run nearly 20 kilometers from Thu Duc City to Ben Thanh Station.
The project, with a price tag of over VND43.7 trillion ($1.91 billion), is 89 percent complete. It is set to open commercially next year.
