The Quang Trung-Hai Ba Trung intersection has been barricaded, narrowing the roadway. According to the Hanoi Department of Construction, the work falls under a program to tackle localized flooding. The project involves building new drainage culverts along Quang Trung and Quan Su streets, ranging from 1.2x0.6 m to 2x2 m, running through Hai Ba Trung, Hoan Kiem and Cua Nam wards.
It aims to resolve flooding in the Phan Boi Chau-Ly Thuong Kiet area and the Old Quarter, and runs from March 14 through May 31.
On Quang Trung Street, barriers are placed in 30-50 m sections along the road's centerline, leaving the remaining roadway about 3.2-3.8 m wide for traffic.
At intersections, vehicles are directed into continuous right turns, and U-turns on Quang Trung Street are banned to ease congestion. The work site, however, is strewn with crushed stone, sand and gravel.
Slippery steel plates temporarily covering manholes caused several motorbike riders to fall during the morning rush hour.
The 2.2-km Hoang Cau-Voi Phuc section of Ring Road 1, which passes through several major traffic corridors in Hanoi, had its land fully cleared on Dec. 15, 2025, and achieved a technical through-connection on Jan. 15, 2026.
On site, crews are working on the roadbed, aiming to finish it before Sept. 2, 2026, and to complete the Lang Ha and Nguyen Chi Thanh overpasses by year's end so the project can open soon.
The Tran Hung Dao bridge project broke ground on Oct. 9, 2025, with total investment of more than VND15.96 trillion ($606 million).
The route begins at the Tran Hung Dao-Tran Thanh Tong-Le Thanh Tong intersection in Cua Nam and Hai Ba Trung wards and ends at Nguyen Son Street in Long Bien and Bo De wards.
The full route, including the bridge and approach roads, runs 4.18 km and is expected to be completed in 2027.
The Tran Hung Dao bridge is a key transport project for Hanoi, helping connect the two banks of the Red River and ease traffic pressure in the central area. Authorities are now speeding up the clearance of homes in the Van Kiep and Bach Dang neighborhoods to hand the site over to the contractor.
Along Van Kiep Street, houses are being demolished, with mounds of rubble, broken bricks and construction materials piled high in clusters, creating the scene of a giant construction site in the middle of a long-established residential area.
The Tu Lien bridge project, with approach roads at both ends, has a total length of 5.15 km and total investment of nearly VND20 trillion ($759 million). It is the first Red River crossing to break ground in Hanoi in 2025.
The project begins at Nghi Tam Street in the former Tay Ho District and ends at Truong Sa Street in the former Dong Anh District. The approach road on the Nghi Tam side is 48 m wide and the Dong Anh side 60 m wide, while the main Tu Lien bridge is a 43-m-wide cable-stayed bridge.
In Hong Ha Ward, authorities plan to reclaim nearly 294,000 sq.m of land for the project, involving 732 plots. These include 339 residential plots with houses, 233 agricultural plots, 151 plots in alluvial and mid-river areas, and 9 plots managed by organizations.
The Tu Lien bridge is expected to open in the second quarter of 2027, helping form another corridor linking the inner city with areas north of the Red River.
The Thuy Phuong canal project along Ring Road 2 has total investment of about VND920 billion ($35 million). It runs from the Thuy Phuong pumping station in Thuy Phuong Ward to the Vo Chi Cong-Hoang Quoc Viet intersection in Nghia Do Ward. The canal stretches about 7 km, of which roughly 3 km is open channel and the rest runs underground.
Beyond supplying water to the To Lich River, the project will help reduce flooding in several urban areas such as Ecohome, Doan Ngoai Giao, Tay Ho Tay and Ciputra, covering a drainage area of about 350 hectares. Two-thirds of the roadway remains barricaded for construction.
The 19.64-km Ring Road 2.5 begins at the Ciputra new urban area and ends at a connection with Ring Road 3 near Thanh Tri Bridge. It is expected to be completed in 2026.
On the section through Thanh Xuan Ward, demolition is being carried out at pace, with machinery running nonstop.
Hanoi plans to spend more than VND8.4 trillion ($319 million) from the city budget on Ring Road 2.5, most of it on site clearance. Several houses along Nguyen Trai Street have had their roofs removed, exposing the interiors.
Debris from the demolition is gathered into piles taller than a person where Ring Road 2.5 meets Nguyen Trai Street. Crews have strung soft barrier lines and rerouted traffic to keep residents away from the danger zone and ensure road safety.
For weeks, sections of Nguyen Trai Street heading toward Ha Dong have been fenced off with metal sheeting for work on an anti-flooding drainage system. Despite a section-by-section method meant to return the surface to use as quickly as possible, the road remains coated in dust over roughly 500 m. The project is expected to help improve urban infrastructure and resolve flooding on Nguyen Trai Street, one of Hanoi's highest-traffic roads in every storm season.
The Kim Ma station (S9) is one of four underground stations on the Nhon-Hanoi Station metro line. In late 2018, crews barricaded part of Kim Ma Street to build the station along with its diaphragm walls and roof slab.
After years of work, the 4-km tunnel from S9 to S12 stations has now been bored through, but the road surface has yet to be restored. The work site occupies much of the median strip along Kim Ma Street, leaving the road frequently jammed, especially at rush hour.
Located more than 500 m from Ring Road 2.5, the Nguyen Tuan street-widening project has remained unfinished for years. The end of the route abutting Nguyen Trai Street is still being dug up and fenced with metal sheeting.
After repeated delays caused by land-clearance hurdles, the Nguyen Tuan upgrade and widening project is now about 85% complete. Work on sidewalks, greenery and lighting continues. Once finished, the road is expected to help reshape the urban landscape and ease traffic pressure in the Thanh Xuan area.
