Storm Noru, one of the most powerful storms to hit Vietnam in two decades and which made landfall over the central region on Wednesday with winds of 133 kph, brought rainfall of 200-470 mm on Wednesday and Thursday, with Nghe An receiving most of the rains.

Quynh Luu is the locality hit hardest, with more than 5,500 houses submerged in floodwaters.
Thuy, the owner of this flooded house, said: "The rain poured all night and we could not get any sleep. The floodwater rose very quickly since dawn Thursday and our house is now under half a meter of water."

According to the district authorities, the flood situation is worsened by the rapidly rising tide and blockages in some places due to construction of the North-South Expressway.

Heavy rains are set to continue until Friday night, with 50-100 mm of rainfall expected, and over 150 mm in some places.
Due to Storm Noru's impacts, at least 62 people have been injured in Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue and Quang Nam provinces, 160 houses were destroyed and over 3,300 houses have been damaged.
Around 5,300 ha of crops and 3,000 ha of aquaculture have also been damaged, and 5,300 trees were uprooted. Livestock and poultry died in the thousands and many roads were swept away.
An area of Xuan Lam Commune in Nghi Xuan District of Ha Tinh Province that borders Nghe An is flooded by more than half a meter.
