Vivian began cycling from Truong Dinh Road at 6:30 a.m on Jan. 23, passing through Tao Dan Park. This area is getting set up for Ho Chi Minh City's largest spring flower festival.
The AIMS specialist cycled through the central streets of Ho Chi Minh City, such as Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Le Duan, and Dong Khoi. Following closely was a member of the VnExpress Marathon organization team.
To ensure precise measurements, a bicycle calibration technique was utilized, involving a bike without shock absorbers, specifically designed for asphalt roads and equipped with mechanical locators. This system has been officially adopted by AIMS since Jan. 1, 2004.
Key points along the route were identified and highlighted. Additionally, Vivian provided valuable recommendations for the organizers on how to adjust the path to best serve the runners.
Vivian stopped for three minutes in front of the headquarters of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee. He appreciates this spot for its ability to showcase the vibrant beauty of Vietnam's bustling metropolis, where historic architecture blends with modern skyscrapers.
After half an hour, at Khanh Hoi Bridge, he used yellow paint to mark the course's turnaround point before heading towards Vo Van Kiet Street.
During his second assessment of the VPBank VnExpress Marathon Ho Chi Minh City Midnight track, Vivian believes that 11,000 runners will have an unforgettable experience running through the most characteristic corners of Ho Chi Minh City.
"The city always impresses me with its never-ending energy and continuous transformation. Runners not only pass by the landmarks but also feel the advancement, seeing more skyscrapers being completed," the AIMS specialist said.
The 2024 nighttime marathon route is set to include modifications for an improved experience. The section in Thu Thiem area will feature more lighting.
The route assessment concluded after more than two hours at the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden.
The official course will be announced after the race receives AIMS certification.
Runners can use the result of the race as one of the criteria to participate in top marathons around the world, such as the Boston Marathon, Chicago Marathon, and Tokyo Marathon.
Scheduled to start on the night of March 2 and continue into the early hours of March 3, the Ho Chi Minh City night marathon serves as both a celebration of spring and also the first race of VnExpress Marathon in 2024.
