Representing Vietnam in this game were former star footballers like Le Huynh Duc, Le Cong Vinh, Pham Van Quyen, Le Quoc Vuong, and Vu Nhu Thanh, along with current players on the national team, Que Ngoc Hai, Do Hung Dung, Pham Tuan Hai and Doan Van Hau.
The charity match with the legendary players of Borussia Dortmund was called “True Love”, aiming to raise funds for children who lost their parents or are in difficult circumstances due to Covid-19.
Forward Van Quyen (C) was in the lineup with Cong Vinh, the most prolific scorer of the national team. Although Quyen is now a coach and overweight, his skills and vision remain intact.
Young striker Pham Tuan Hai was put in a good position to score in the first half, but he could not beat Dortmund’s famous keeper Roman Weidenfeller. The former goalie played for Dormund from 2022 to 2018 and won two Bundesliga titles.
Defender Ngoc Hai looked small next to Jan Koller, who’s 2.02 meters. At 49, the former Czech striker still played the full match and, despite not scoring, caused Vietnam’s defense many troubles.
Even though Vietnam All-Stars included active national team players, Dortmund Legends still dominated. They scored two goals early in the first half thanks to Miaden Petric and David Odonkor.
In the second half, current national team captain Do Hung Dung was subbed in to increase midfield strength.
Vietnam football legend Le Huynh Duc also came on and secured the team a penalty. From the spot, Cong Vinh made no mistake and got one back for Vietnam All-Stars.
When one Dortmund player was fouled in the box and referee Duong Huu Phuc did not give a penalty, Odonkor immediately came to question him and got a yellow card.
