Con Market is a renowned destination for Da Nang cuisine, along with many other markets like Han Market, Bac My An Market and night markets such as Helo and Son Tra.
Con Market stands out for its central location, reasonable prices and variety of local dishes.
The market has two food court areas, including indoor and outdoor. The indoor area is neat and spacious, which is perfect for any weather.
Bi My's banh trang thit heo (rice paper rolls with pork) is a must-try dish when you visit Con Market. It is a well-known location among food lovers and has been featured in many TikTok videos.
The eatery is in the indoor food court, but it only has two small tables with benches around the owner's table where they prepare the food. There is no big signboard, so you can find it by looking for a busy stall with staff who are always cutting meat and serving customers.
The main dish of the eatery is rice paper rolls with pork. A meal here costs about VND40,000 to VND50,000 ($1.70 to $2.13), which is higher than the average in Da Nang, but the food is clean and of high quality.
The owner preserves the pork's flavor and moisture by only slicing the meat from large chunks of pork when customers order. The thin slices of meat are soft and fragrant even after boiling, and have a nice ratio of meat and fat.
You wrap them in two layers rice paper - the outer layer soft and dry and the inner wet and thick, with vermicelli, vegetables, herbs, mango and cucumber. The shop provides plenty of vegetables and fresh herbs such as lettuce, Vietnamese perilla, mint, basil, and green onions. Mango and cucumber slices are given according to the meat amount to avoid waste, but you can ask for more.
A VND50,000 serving has about five long meat slices, enough for five rolls. This is suitable for those who want to save room in their belly for other foods at the market such as crushed rice cracker or vermicelli with anchovy sauce.
Bi My eatery's sauce is light and flavorful, with a sweet and salty balance. It has a strong anchovy aroma and a spicy kick from the central Vietnamese palate. If you don't like spicy food, you should dip lightly or tell the owner beforehand.
Some people love the anchovy sauce so much that they buy a bottle to take home. It costs between VND30,000 and VND50,000 ($1.28 and $2.13) per bottle. The shop also offers other sauces such as shrimp paste and fermented melon sauce.
Another dish at the eatery is bun mam nem. It has similar ingredients as the pork rolls, but with vermicelli, roasted peanuts, chopped roasted pork, vegetables, anchovy sauce and chili sauce in a bowl. Besides these two dishes, Bi My eatery also sells fresh juices.
The eatery is small and always crowded with customers. If you dislike being cramped, you can go to its other venue on Chuong Duong Street or order through a delivery app to dine at home. Photo courtesy of ryanfoodaholic
Next to Bi My eatery is Miss Thu's avocado ice cream. An avocado ice cream serving costs VND20,000 ($0.85). It consists of avocado, vanilla ice cream, and toasted coconut chips. You can also add durian and custard apples.
Other dining options at the market include tapioca dumplings, savory steamed rice cake, and desserts such as sweet soups che, ice cream and smoothies.
