Last weekend, supermodel Thanh Hang and her husband had a romantic outing at SORAE, situated on the 51st floor of the Bitexco Financial Tower at 36 Ho Tung Mau Street in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. The couple have become known for supporting each other's work while also setting aside time to enjoy life together.
Hang and Minh share a passion for Japanese cuisine. Last month, they traveled to Japan to savor Hokkaido specialties like Anago eel and Kegani hairy crab.
This time, they opted for a high-end eatery offering both à la carte and Omakase (chef-selected) dining options.
Famed for its fresh sashimi sets featuring ingredients imported from Japan, SORAE served the couple a variety of 12 different offerings, including lobster, tuna belly, and king crab.
Additionally, the menu offers sets of 9 or 5 dishes. The sets are the priciest options at the restaurant, ranging from VND1.5 million to VND9.3 million ($60 to $376) per portion.
One of Thanh Hang and her husband's favorite dishes is sea urchin eggs, served with seaweed leaves. Sea urchin eggs are known as uni in Japanese. Uni has a golden hue, a tender texture that melts in the mouth, and a balance of fatty, salty, and slightly sweet flavors.
Carefully prepared to ensure they maintain their shape and are free from any undesirable texture, uni is typically served with wasabi or soy sauce. However, uni can be quite expensive, sometimes costing a few hundred dollars for 100 grams, depending on its quality and origin.
For a change of pace, the couple also placed two orders for crispy tacos. One was topped with salmon in truffle sauce and flying fish roe, while the other featured grilled wagyu beef with truffle garlic sauce. This fusion of Japanese ingredients with Mexican tacos was a unique flavor experience.
Besides the main dishes, the couple also enjoyed noodles. The restaurant offers udon, ramen, and soba noodles with flavors like Angus beef with truffle mushrooms, Canadian lobster with shrimp sauce, or spicy seafood soup. Additionally, the menu includes green tea cold noodles served with tempura, as well as various types of sauced rice and fried rice.
Thanh Hang and her husband ordered two servings of green tea ice cream and mochi cake, adorned with a small gold leaf for decoration.
Thanh Hang and her husband reserved a private room for a more intimate dining experience. The restaurant is well-suited for hosting esteemed guests as it offers over 10 VIP rooms, each designed with a distinctive Japanese theme.
