A beach road of 300-meter-long, six-meter-wide in Thua Thien Hue Province was devastated following Trami.

The storm made landfall in Thua Thien-Hue and Da Nang at around 10 a.m. Sunday, boasting wind speeds at 88 kph.

Large chunks of concrete were overturned and strewn across the beach.

Prior to the storm, strong winds, rising waves, and high tides during September and October had already eroded a one-kilometer stretch of coastline, encroaching 70 to 100 meters inland.

Powerful sea waves pushed large rocks into the business area, uprooting trees and exposing their roots, while a row of casuarina trees intended as a sand barrier was toppled.

The sixth storm to enter Vietnam’s waters this year, Trami did not cause significant damage to houses and inland structures.

However, heavy rains, fierce waves, and high tides battered the coastline and coastal embankments.

Many beachfront shops were left leaning from the strong winds, even after people had reinforced their roofs with dozens of water-filled foam boxes.

Shop owners scrambled to salvage their remaining belongings after the storm passed.

With sea waves still dangerously high, local authorities in Phu Vang District and Hue City of Thua-Thien Hue are planning to restrict residents' access to the area.

Several areas in Thua Thien Hue are facing power outages due to disruptions in the 110kV power grid and distribution network. With the storm now dissipated, the power sector is working diligently to restore electricity.

In Da Nang City, powerful waves dislodged pavement tiles on Nhu Nguyet Street along the Han River in Hai Chau District.

The tiled pavement near the seashore was washed away by the high waves, with debris drifting onto the inner asphalt road.

The Han River lies close to the river’s mouth and therefore it had experienced strong waves that damaged sidewalks, road embankments, and stone benches.

The area had been under a high tide warning since the evening of Oct. 26.

Storm Trami has claimed three lives and left one missing.

Thua Thien Hue, the hardest-hit area, reported two fatalities: one person was swept away while crossing a rapidly flooded road, and another was carried off while setting a fishing net. In Quang Nam Province, which borders both Da Nang and Thua Thien-Hue, a person died after falling from a roof while attempting to secure it.
