Since July 24 some areas in Chuong My District began to be flooded by the overflowing Bui River. The next day 11 out of 32 communes and towns in the district were flooded.
In the photo above, Nhan Ly village in Nam Phuong Tien Commune is under water that is deeper than two meters in some places.
Hanoi and the north received heavy rains after Storm Prapiroon made landfall in the northern Quang Tri Province on July 23.

Nguyen Van Tho rows a boat more than 1 km from his house to get clean water provided by local authorities.
He has brought 10 large cans to collect water for his family of five.
Tho says: “The water is currently more than two meters deep where I live. I collected four cans yesterday but it was not enough. So today I have to get more.” He shows his hands, blistered from soaking in water for too long.
Across Chuong My District, more than 1,300 households are under water 0.5-2 meters deep, and over 1,100 other families have pathways leading to their houses flooded. The transportation and irrigation systems are also severely damaged with 5.5 km of dikes flooded, 37 meters eroded, and more than 160,000 meters of rural and inner-field roads flooded.
Provincial road 421B connecting the districts of Chuong My and Quoc Oai is under more than a meter of water.
As of Sunday in Chuong My, more than 1,600 hectares of rice, vegetables and fruit trees were under water, and stocks in more than 1,100 hectares of aquaculture ponds were washed away. Nearly 1,900 animals and 180,000 poultry birds are at risk from the flooding.
In Can Huu Commune in Quoc Oai District, a residential area, is completely inundated. By Sunday afternoon the district reported that more than 630 hectares of farms, mainly paddies, were flooded.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting warned Sunday that the northern region would experience severe downpours in the next three days due to the impacts of a low-pressure area, with 70-200 mm of precipitation expected, and even 300 mm in some places.
